A very interesting thing happened to me yesterday. I would like to share it with you.
Actually, what I am about to share with you began the night before last. I was sitting at my computer, and I ran into a problem. It was nothing earth-shaking. It was only a little technical problem dealing with the formatting of a website. I was working with a WordPress theme, trying to increase the width of a page. Like so many times, I struggled to resolve this problem, and was unable to do so. Therefore, I said, “The heck with it”, and just closed everything down and watched a good movie. I was not about to waste two hours dealing with frustration. There is one good thing that can be said about frustration, believe it or not. Frustration is only a temporary condition. The problem is always solved.
Remember this next statement, because it will be a major one in a later article:
I have never run into a problem that I did not solve.
Now, I will continue on with the story.
Yesterday afternoon, I was relaxing while watching Dr. Phil. Like always, I was enjoying his show. And then, out of nowhere, the solution to the problem hit me like a bolt of lightning. Of course, I watched the rest of Dr. Phil, because I was really getting into the story that he was uncovering.
Later on in the evening, I sat down to my computer, and resolved the problem in about 15 minutes.
I was so captivated by this, that I decided to discuss this with my best business adviser, who also happens to be my little sister. She convinced me that when one is in a situation where they have to solve a problem, it is difficult because the pressure to succeed is present, and is building up. While sitting at your computer, your mind sometimes draws a blank. You may feel like you absolutely have to solve a problem. The results are, you do not know what to do, and you are not going to know what to do as long as your are obsessed with the problem your are currently experiencing. Frustration takes over. You will not effectively accomplish anything while under this enormous pressure to succeed. She convinced me to take a day off from time to time, and allow my mind to focus. I am recommending that you do the same thing when this happens to you.
This is not the first time this has occurred. Many of my best ideas come to me when I am not even thinking of business and internet marketing. I have capitalized on some of the ideas I have had while being away from the computer and doing something else.
This is when I get some of my best ideas:
- While playing golf
- While mowing the lawn
- While watching television
- While driving down the street
- And especially, while lying in bed trying to get to sleep
In fact, many times I have been lying in bed at around 1:00 AM, and an idea suddenly came to me. Not being too sleepy, a few times, I have immediately gone to my computer, and followed through with the idea, with some very satisfying results.
So remember, when your business runs into a road block, and you have a problem that you don’t know how to solve, don’t give up. The solution will come to you, when you least expect it.
